Election Time

We have elcetions coming up next week. This is an opportinuity for us to participate in our own governance. A privilige that not everyone has. I know that in recent times(the last 10 years especially)it may feel like there is no point in voting. That it doesn't matter, nothing will change if I vote or not. It is very esay to get discouraged when it seems like you are only choosing between the lesser of two evils. But we still need to do it. If you don't use your muscles, they can atrophy and become useless. So it can with voting. It could even be taken away. If we don't exercise our right to vote, our leaders could be chosen by committee or by the government itself with no oversite, no discussion, with a complete disregard of the will of the people. If we don't use this privilage, then why di dour forefathers fight the revolution? Why did all of those American servicemen storm the beaches of Normady?

No matter which way you lean, republican or democrat, rmemeber to vote on Tuesday, November 2nd!

Ole Miss Mascot- Bring back Col. Reb!!!!!

The Ole Miss mascot selection people released the mock-ups for the new mascot choices. They are stupid and have nothing to do with the Rebels. Come on people, a land shark, black bear, and I don't even know what the other thing is supposed to be. Is it a spaceman or the illegitimate child of the blue man group? I know that the black bear has something to do with the state, but what does it have to do with the Rebels? And the land shark? You can't make a mascot out of a cheer that just started, and that goes for hotty toddy man as well. They need to stick with Col. Reb. He is not a racist symbol. How can he be when he is based on an elderly black gentleman named Blind Jim Ivy? What will be next? the name Ole Miss? Maybe the Rebels? I bet they will probably try to move the entire university out of the state of Mississippi.

If they are so intent on removing all symbols that they consider racist, then they also need to remove the American flag from campus. Slavery happened under that flag as well. And it was under the flag if the United States that the government practiced the genocide of the American Indians. Now if that's not racist, what is?

Col. Reb is not racist, he is a tradition. He's not hurting anyone. If they administration is so up in arms about this, I would expect them to also be leading a movement to to the same with other colleges and pro teams. I'm sure that there are some Native Americans that are offended by the Atlanta Braves, Washington Redskins, Florida State Seminoles, and so on. Why isn't the Ole Miss administration saying anything about them?

The administration isn't doing this for the university or the students, they are doing it for themselves. They have their political agenda and anything that gets in the way or they don't agree with must go.They obviously don't care about traditions or history. It's my experience that most liberals don't.

And if some students are bothered by it, then maybe Ole Miss is not the right place for them. They did choose to apply and attend knowing who the mascot is. No one can like everything about the college they attend, and if the mascot is their only beef, then they need to get over it because that is very petty.

The bottom line is, those of us that want to keep Col. Reb need to let the administration know. And the only way they will listen is through their pocketbook. We need to stop donating money, stop buying tickets for games. That is the only way to get their attention.

Bring back Col. Reb!

New Football Rule

I was watching a pre-season game the other day and heard of this new rule for the upcoming season. It basically doesn't let QB hussle the start of the play anymore. They have to wait until the ref's get out of the way. The NFL says its about safety. Well, thats fine. Being safe out on the field is always something to have. But, if they are so concerned about the ref's getting hurt, then they should be required to wear pads and a helmet just like the players. This new rule is going to mess with a lot of the QB's who like to move fast.

The NFL should re-think them wearing pads.

Movies

Its been awhile since I have posted. I was listening to the radio this morning and the DJ's were talking about their favorite movies. That got me thinking. There are so many great movies out there. I was watching The Big Sleep last night, and there is just nothing like watching old movies late at night. When I was a kid, I would stay up late with my Dad and watch the old Universal monster movies or old westerns. Those are some great movies. If you are a movie buff, you have probably seen a lot of the classic movies. If you have not, you should. You should be able to find a list on the Internet of what not to miss.

And the great movies are not just the classics, there are some wonderful new movies too.

If you need a list of where to start, let me know.

Remember, to understand our present and our future, we must first understand our past.

A sad day for presbyterians

I just don't understand how a church can do this. Are they not reading their bibles? The bible states clearly that this is a sin, but they continue to vote this way. These people will have a lot to answer for when they come before the Lord. The bible says that you can't add or take away from it. It is the word of God.

SC Prayer

This is sad, but it happened becasue people don't want to hear the truth. They want to keep living their lives in sin.

Picnic

We had a big church picnic last week. It was so much fun. Great food, great fellowship, great fun. Everyone gathered around to talk and eat. We had the grills going with lots of meat that people had brought. The adults played some football against the youth, with some of the younger kids playing as well. We even played some games from that show Minute to Win it. That was lots of fun. It is good to just relax and recharge with everyone. I wish that we could do that more than just once a year, maybe every other month or something. Its just nice to do something nowadays that does not involve lots of stress or worry, something simple and basic. I can't wait for the next one.

Summer

Yesterday was the first day of summer. The time has come once again for BBQ's, baseball and outdoor games, and just enjoying the world that God created.

The 4th of July is coming up soon, and I look forward to that part of summer every year. To celebrate our nation's birthday with fireworks, family and friends, and of course food! I remember growing up and still being able to buy and set off your own fireworks. You would see stands set up on just about every corner and selling all kinds of fireworks. I would see all of the different packages you could buy, the various colors things would come in. Then on the night of the 4th, everyone would come out of their house and stand on their sidewalk and light off their fireworks. It was like a big party. You would see your neighbors and they would see you. As a street, you would celebrate together, as participants, not spectators. Now, we all do our own thing. Only coming together to watch a big display, but still on our own.

What happened to those days when people came together for things? When you knew your neighbors. We have become too much involved in our own concerns and desires. We have forgotten some of the tings that made this country great.

Sewing

I went to a ren fair with my wife a couple of months ago, and it got me thinking. Seeing the various demonstrations of crafts and how things were made during that time reminded me that all of this knowledge is quickly disappearing.

Now not everyone can have a section in their home for glass blowing or blacksmithing, although I've always thought glass blowing was interesting, but people could sew.

Seeing the looms at the fair and how things were made back then was interesting, but looms are expensive. Sewing machines can be affordable. But, like other things it is becoming a lost art. What would happen if we couldn't go to the store and buy new clothes, blankets, and other items. If we could sew, it would not be a problem. And we could also make something unique. But, its not just clothes. You could make blankets, curtains, and many other things. Give your home your own personal touch. Make items last longer as well. Have a ripped piece of clothing or something that doesn't fit anymore? If you knew how to sew, you could fix it or turn it into some other useful item. This goes back to recycling and trying to be more responsible with the environment.

I was at a craft fair yesterday with my wife were everything was handmade, and a lot was made from something old. I saw a woman that turned men's dress shirts into purses. That was a clever idea, and nothing went to waste.

Here I am talking about sewing like I know how. Truth is, I can sew a button back on, but not much else. But, my wife is learning and starting to look at using things other than just going to the fabric store to get material.

There was a time that if you wanted new clothes, blankets, or anything else, you would have to pay someone or make it yourself. We, as a society are losing our ability to be craftsmen and artisans. We need to get that back. It will give us the pride of accomplishment in making something, more responsibility towards the environment, and a continuation of our cultural heritage.

Storms in the South

I have been watching the news coverage about the storms and flooding in the South. Of course, I have to go to the websites of local newspapers to get any information, no national media or media in other parts of the country covered anything but the initial report.

It breaks my heart to see the images and hear the stories. I am lucky in that my family did not suffer too much damage.

I wonder though, will the government actually help this situation or will it be another issue like Katrina. Although to be fair, most of that issue was with the government of Louisiana and New Orleans. The towns in Mississippi that were wiped out of existence actually had an easier time dealing with their state government.

The job of Congress

An article on Foxnews.com quotes Obama as saying "ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE -- President Barack Obama said Wednesday that there "may not be an appetite" in Congress to deal with immigration immediately after going through a tough legislative year."

May not be an "appetite"? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that their job? Isn't that why they were sent to D.C.? I mean, if I told my boss, well, I just don't have an appetite to do that project right now, do you think he would be, oh, ok? No, he'd probably say well then don't bother coming in the rest of your life!

These people need to remember that WE are their boss, not the other way around. That their job is there at OUR discretion and not theirs.

Write your Congressmen and Senators, tell them that they are the employee and WE are the boss, and this is the project I expect you to do!

VA Hospitals

I just saw this article, it doesn't surprise me. It should not be this difficult for our Veterans to get their benefits. They volunteered for military service, the least we can do is take care of them afterwards. And here's something else to think about. If the government can't take care of a small percentage of our population through the VA, how can we honestly believe that this new health care program will work for everyone else?

Prayer

National Day of Prayer is scheduled for May 6, 2010.

Power Loss

I was on Facebook the other day and saw a post from an old friend. She said that her power had gone out due to a storm, but that she was so happy her laptop had battery power.

I read that and thought it was kinda sad. We have become so dependent on technology that we have forgotten how to live without it. I immediately thought of several things that could be done if you lost power, and all without using technology.

You could light some candles and sit around with your family and tell stories. They could be any kinda of stories. Family history, scary stories, or you could play a game where each person makes up part of the story. You could play a board game or cards. Sing songs. Read from the Bible.

Those are just the things off of the top of my head. I'm sure with some more thought, you could come up with more ideas. The point is, be creative. Don't rely on technology, it may not always be there.

Food

One step we can take to becoming more self-sufficent is to have a garden. If you have some yard space, it will be a little easier. But, if you are in an apartment or somewhere with out one, you can still have a little garden. You can get some window boxes or large planter or pots to grow some fresh herbs. You might be able to grow a tomato plant if you have a big enough pot. Berry fruits would be good to grow.

I also see those special indoor pots for herbs an the ones that you hang outside and grow tomatoes upside down. I don't know how well they work, but you can find out.

If you have a backyard it will be a little easier to grow some things. Just try and think of what you use most. Check with your local nursery to see what you can grow without much trouble if you don't have a gree thumb. This should save money in the long run, it make take a small investment to get started) and you will know that you are getting fresh food free from chemicals and you will know exactly how it was handled, where its been, and how many people may have tocuhed it before it got to you kitchen.

The Greatest Generation

There is a reason they are called this. They know all of the things that the generations that followed have forgotten.

They lived throguh the depression and knew the value of a dollar and of a hard, honest days work. When asked to sacrifice, they did it. Could you imagine if the people today were told that they could only get gas on certain days of the week? Or women asked to give up stockings or other items? There would be a riot. That generation knew right from wrong and what to do about it. When Pearl Harbor was attacked, they didn't wait to be drafted, they went and enlisted the next day. They knew our very freedom and way of life was being attacked. Its not that they wanted war, but they understood that freedom comes with a price. They knew that in order to secure freedom, sometimes you must take up arms against your enemy. The founding fathers knew this, why do you think we had a revolutionary war? Was England just going to go away because we wrote on this peice of paper that we were independant? No. This country needs to get back to the ideals of the greatest generation, the sacrifice and duty they felt. To trusting in God, and knowing that only He can get us through anything.

Interesting read....

This was forwarded to me, it is worth a read.

Conservatives need to rethink our attitude about war??? Conservatives are the ones who have remained consistent throughout the history of America -- that Freedom is Not Free, and that while no one -- not even Conservatives who are fraudulently smeared by today's culpatory press as being blood thirsty tyrants - wants to fight and possibly die defending freedom, it nontheless is a reality and necessity. Anything worth keeping is worth fighting for. Ironically, it's when a country is at it's strongest, it is less likely to be taken advantage of, attacked, or provoked into a battle. That is what is meant by "Peace through Strength." It doesn't take much logic to understand that the strongest kid in school is the least likely to be picked on.

Liberals are the ones who need to rethink why they have CHANGED, in so many ways since the 1960's, that it's THEIR doing that has weakened America and made it more likely we will be attacked or likely we'll see another Civil or Revolutionary war in our lifetime -- unless guys like you start spreading the reality your bro Kevin, Nate, and I dish out instead of spewing the illogical and historically inaccurate rhetoric you tow and blow for the Libs who are the ones leading us on a path of ugly, ugly destruction. Libs today don't believe it, but Freedom Aint Free. The last great Lib president who believed it and knew America's safety and strength shouldn't be compromised, was JFK. Virtually every die-hard Liberal today doesn't want to remember his backbone during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and his famous quote (which most Libs today think couldn't possibly have been said by a Lib) when JFK said "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well, or wishes us ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty." Yes, there was a time when America was great, and that time was when all American's, irregardless of political party, understood that America's greatness was firmly rooted in America's 1) freedom, 2) strength, and 3) prosperity. Since JFK, most Libs have used America's freedom irresponsibly and intentionally (such as infiltrating academia with Libs who have revised American History for 30 yrs now, etc) inflicting ignorance, dependence, and a lack of patriotism on 2 generations now that has served to suicidally kill our strength and prosperity. That, combined with the motis operandi of ungratefully insulting our military and capitalist free markets, has left us only with a thin strand of freedom left that -- it too -- may be murdered, by design from the Marxists Socialist fascists that the ignorant zombies, politically correct, racist, and silent majority have allowed to gain control of our once great nation.

Don't know about Kevin, but I know there are millions like me who definitely won't become Social Justice slaves and allow our Founding principles and rights of Life, Liberty, and PURSUIT (not handouts) of Happiness to be intentionally misinterpreted by tyrants to create any unconstitutional Right or Dependence (like the HealthCare law) for TARGETED (unequal/ injustice) individuals. Our Founders correctly stated that our Rights are endowed by our Creator, and it's indisputable that the only RIGHTS the Founders intended are those NON-MONETARY things like Life, Liberty, and PURSUIT of happiness, and Right of Free Speech, or Right to peacefully gather, or Right for a law abiding citizen to bear arms to protect his family or country against a tyrannical government that wants to violate our Constitution and oppress our people. All that our Founders and Framing documents make clear. Those Founding documents detail our Rights as those aforementioned non-monetary rights, as stated above; therefore, any product or service, which involves a COST such as Healthcare, is therefore not a Right endowed by our Creator nor guaranteed by our Constitution, which our Politicians swore to uphold and protect.

We are all created equal to PURSUE happiness, not for it to be stolen from the ambitious and hardworking and given to the lazy, or to the racist, or to the ignorant, or other dependent zombies. Abraham Lincoln, thank God, correctly understood the intent of "all men are created equal" and led us into a just war to abolish slavery -- that history wound up correctly characterizing Lincolns sense of justice, resolve, and fortitude. Frederick Douglas and MLK Jr must be looking down from Heaven and bewildered at the lies, deceit, and lack of gratitude from Obama, his mentors, and willing footsoldiers who display an ungratefulness for the American History that made our country the greatest on Earth and gave all its people, including his African bretheren, freedom and opportunity.

So, the bottom line of my lengthy first thought is: If you are suggesting that Libs hate war more than Conservatives, you better wake up out of your zombie or fainting Obama state and see the irony and hypocrisy of where we are headed if the LIBERALS DON'T RETHINK OR UNDERSTAND THEIR ATTITUDES, RHETORIC, OR LIES ABOUT AMERICA'S TRUE WAR HISTORY. Those who never understand the true lessons of history are more likely to repeat the ugly mistakes of the past. And hopefully, some of all this is being absorbed and will result in you pursuading 2 or 3 votes to CHANGE the make up of Congress come this November. You started this discussion about War, and I really haven't made too much of a tangent because the likes of George Washington fought for our Freedom at the Battle Lines. We will win our freedom at the Ballot Lines... with your help... But if you must be a stubborn Lib until your death, will you please consider the great people here in America who aren't suicidal??? What's the saying: If You Are Not Willing To Stand Behind Our Troops, Please, Please Feel Free To Stand In Front Of Them.

My second thought is a simple quote: "Pacifism is a synthesis of academic hubris & ignorance enabled by the sacrifices and service of the ones at the frontline." Yes, it's the ungratefulness that hurts the most to patriots like me who hate to see all the American PROGRESS (yes, Conservatives are the true Progressives) and human sacrafices be in vain if the path the Liberals are leading us on isn't altered or CHANGED.

Thirdly, if Libs hate War so much, why haven't I heard any outcry from the mainstream media about the provisions in the Healthcare legislation that authorizes the Presidente to create his own army??? Here's Judge Napolitano discussing that tyrannical HC provision:
http://kosmosnet.com/Permalink.aspx?ID=11253

Fourth, this video I linked below should be viewed by all who want to see how Republicans/ Conservatives have always been the real party of Civil Rights and Equal Justice, http://www.nmatv.com/video/134/Setting-The-Record-Straight-Pt-1
which fits into this debate about War since we are ever so close to America's second Revolutionary or Civil War, which will - if it happens - be a War pitting Liberals against Conservatives (who can deny the Liberals haven't been attacking for years already?) Therefore, it's important the record be set straight at the outset: Watch that above link (as well as others I've linked at www.twitter.com/SilenceIsDeadly to document how Conservatives are the Party of Civil Rights and the Libs and MSM have been the tyrants) and decide what political party you'd be proud to stand with when you cast your vote. You really are voting for either Freedom on the right, and voting for Slavery/Govt Dependence/ Tyranny on the Left. Plain and Simple. For those Libs too proud or ignorant to be swayed by facts and logic, at least pray the rest of the electorate snaps out of it's slumber or zombie state so we can avoid the War we ALL WANT to avoid.

Unfortunately, most people don't know what they have until it's gone.

Thoughts.....

You know, I think about the history of this county, about the pioneers that came west or those that first landed on these shores, about the Native Americans that were here before that. I watch shows like the Dugger’s or the DIY type channels and I realize that the majority of us could not be self-sufficient. What happened to that pioneering spirit and know how? We have become too reliant on technology and other people doing things for us. I myself am guilty of this. We don’t know how to repair our own cars or houses.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my TV, video games, DVD’s, and so forth. But, what would happen if those were taken away? Would we be able to survive? I don’t believe that we should run off into the mountains and live away from society, but we should be able to do things for ourselves.

We should think about the choices we make. How can we get back to that pioneering spirit? By making small choices, here and there, we can start that. I am NOT a tree-hugger, but there is no reason to buy plastic water bottles everyday when, we can get a reusable bottle. This is not about doing what is good for the environment, though these things would be. Its about saving money and being able to provide ourselves. If we have solar power, we won’t have to worry about paying our electric bill. If we have a garden, less money spent at the grocery store. Just think how much we could save if we knew how to repair our own cars.

Getting back to these types of basics is going to help not only us, but the country as well. The first step we should take though, is to pick up our bibles and trust in God for all things.

Getting back to basics

With everything happening in the world and the country we need to, as a people, get back to the fundementals that our country was founded on.
